I'm about to order a set of Skinner Sights for my 1894C in .357. Will likely follow recommendations on their site and get a .500 front sight. Am I correct in assuming that the standard base width is 3/8? I believe mine was made in 1982, serial # 180XXXXX.

The dovetail width is 3/8". If you are talking about the width of the base crossways it could be 1/4" or 3/8" if it uses a ramp. If it is dovetailed to the barrel likely 3/8" or 1/2".

Probably best you measure yours to be sure.

I have the same rifle: my setup: Skinner express: front site .600 which I filed down to adjust the POI: Very please: Take your time during testing; I have the same set up on my Henry Frontier 22 lr. I did order: I left the rear sight in on mine Marlin 1894. Mr. Larsen is very helpful. His website is self explanatory. I am also a tender foot.
