I went to my local gun store yesterday and found an older marlin in 35 remington with the straight stock. I was wondering how to read the serial number and what information i can learn from it. I am particularly interested in finding out the year of manufacture.

336SS Hello and Welcome to MarlinOwners from New York!

take a look at this and it will show you how to read the Ser#"s http://www.marlinowners.com/forum/m...ar-code-production-dates-ser-1-sheet-pdf.html

Most times you can take the first two digits of the ser# subtract them from 100 and get the year of manufacture {YOM}
example ser# 26189 would be 100- 26 = 74 so it would be a 1974 YOM....

Hope this helps, and Good luck...

Another thing, if its a Straight Stock its probably a Texan and they are in more demand, and harder to find "most times"....
