Well I finally decided to put a scope on my Mosin:flute:
I bought a ATI Rail and bolt conversion about 12 months ago,
Yesterday I went round to a mates house and drilled and taped the action in his Mill,
Everything turned out nice and square but the screws that fix the rail on were too short, due to the Hex chamber I think.
so we let them in another 1.5mm so they were just not quiet protruding into the chamber,
everything seemed to tighten down well,
I have read something on Uthing and some people said this stuff is no good, we'll see
but i have an extra bracket made up to bolt to the side of the rail and the 45deg reasonably flat section on the side of the action if it dosent work.

AS for the bolt handle, we are going to do it tomorrow,
Cut off the existing handle, drill and tap the bolt,

I am also going to put an extra screw in the centre of where the old handle was,
this will give the new handle 2 screws to share the load,

Once everything is complete I will loktite all the screws in and hopefully that will be the end.:hmmmm:.

I will take Pics as I am doing the final assembly.
heres hopin.

Yeah Dave it finally worked out, but it aint like they say in the instructions,
If my mate didn't have a Mill in his garage i would be still grinding and filing,
I put an extra screw in the middle of the old bolt handle stem just for insurance.

Going to the range tomorrow to zero it hopefully,
will try and get pics tomorrow night, also hopefully:biggrin:

Gus,
How about some pics and a range report when you get out and shoot that "bad boy".

Yeah dave I have taken the pics and been to the range,
but I am waiting for my daughter to come over and get em out of the camera and on the Pooter,
cause I have forgot that bit already:hmmmm:

But what I can tell is, it shot a 20 and 22mm 3 shot groupe at 100yds with my 125gn sierra reloads.
Trouble now is, while I had it all apart i sprayed degreaser up the chamber and action,
It cleaned all the crud out of everything, looks great,
now the triger is 5 times worse than it was before,
and you know how bad they are when they are good

I seen a Uthing video somewhere about getting the Creep out of the trigger,
gunna have to get it sorted cause it bad,
ya never know when its gunna go bang,
might have been too liberal with the oil when i put the bolt back together.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

With a 20-22 mm group of 3 shots and a creepy trigger, I'd say that is real decent. Sorry I don't have a suggestion for the trigger fix, but I'm sure you will get it right. What are you going to do when you shoot twice and just have one hole at 100 yds ?. Looking forward to the pics

Left click to enlarge
SAM_0166.JPG Second hand Simmons Aetec scope.
SAM_0168.JPG ATI bolt conversion, notice the extra screw we put in the centre of the old bolt stubb
SAM_0170.JPG ATI rail screwed to the action, I am not too sure about the canterleaver of the rail, but so far so good.
SAM_0172.JPG Just a long shot
SAM_0165.JPG The 22mm groupe with a very creepy trigger, this was the result after bore sighting and 4 shots to get on the money.
Now I just have to fix the trigger and I heve a very useable rifle for $530.00.

Yeah thanks Dave, it turned out Ok,
I am a bit like the Horse with one eye, i dont look too good either
I couldnt believe how light the stock is on the old Russians
I still feel a bit like I did the wrong thing drilling it and all,
but at least I have another rifle that I can confidently shoot,
Never did have stuff to only Pat and Drool on.

Gus, for future reference, I would highly recommend using a Rock Solid scope mount for those intending to drill and tap the receiver. Best quality mounts on the market and the scope is positioned with proper eye relief so you aren't limited to using a pistol scope.

Personally, I have a difficult time putting holes in my Mosin receivers. JMeck scope mounts wrap around the receiver work really well and holds zero. I have a couple of these mounts myself.
