Almost every time I turn on the t.v., it seems there's some type of sci fi monster movie on; giant spiders, alligators, lizards, giant dinosaur birds, raptors, snakes, you name it.

Now, in every single one of them, there seems to be a group of soldiers who are all using .223 wiz bang rifles.

So, I find myself figuring out the "rifle of choice" in the scenarios and almost always come up with the same thing: A Marlin lever gun in 45-70, 444 Marlin, or 450 Marlin. Maybe a 12 gauge pump loaded with Dixie Terminators or maybe some Tri-Ball, depending. ;D

So, what's your choice? :-\

I saw an episode of “Swamp People” that had a guy shooting a gator with a 444.

The first time I saw that “Hollywood shootout” with those bank robbers in tactical gear, I couldn’t help but think of what would happen if somebody had a 444 Marlin handy. Specially loaded with hard cast.

Sure would've messed up their guidance system with a 444 or 45-70, .375 H&H, or some other flavor of big boomer. Even if it didn't penetrate the BP vests, it would've been like hitting them with a VW.

Actually in 2293 the Klingons had an experimental Bird of Prey that allowed the ship to fire its weapons while cloaked. Caused quite a problem to Cap'n Kirk. FYI the Klingons obtained their cloaking tech from the Romulans in the 2230's when they had a short lived treaty.

Question is what are you gonna have when a Predator, Aliens and an Alien queen coming rolling through town. I'd personally want a .458 lott. I love my levergun but for dinosaurs and large game that you need penetration and stopping power i'd want something bigger and faster.

I've always thought the exact same thing. When the armored up guys were getting repeatedly nailed with .223's and other light rounds, they were barely staggering. I can pretty much guarantee that a .45-70 hardcast flat headed slug would break every rib in their chest, turning their internal organs into mush.

That's the problem with people today. They follow the protocols so rigidly that they don't take the incentive to reanalyze the problem when the protocols fail to work. If they had, they would have realized that high capacity magazines and light rounds weren't doing what a few .375 H&H or .45-70 rounds would have likely accomplished quickly.
