SBL Missing White Bullseye Dot On Rear Stock/Issue??

5424 Views 21 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  BrokenVet
Just noticed today guys my SBL is missing the famed Marlin white dot on the underside of rear stock. Any reason to be alarmed or wah?
Everything else is 100% w/ the rifle...serial begins with 91,JM stamp, not butchered in anyway, cycles great, just wondering why no white dot???
Could it be that they drilled the sling stud in that spot or what? Sorry for sounding stupid, just curious is all. ???

I'll be interested in what the experts say. I also noticed the white "bullseye" was missing on my JM proof marked 1894SS (stainless) in .44 Mag that I bought about three years ago. The gun is otherwise perfect.
I no expert – but I believe the “Marlin Bullseye” are only installed on walnut stocks.
My XLR and GBL do not have them.
:)

Rowdy,

You are correct. Only Walnut stocks will have the Bullseye............Asthough, there was a period of time in 2008 that the bullseye was removed from the walnut stocks also..............That was an attempt to "Save Money" by one small group of people that were looking only at the bottonm line.........That was corrected by Tommy Milner when he was CEO............

OK, there is the answer from the Expert. Thanks Tomray. My stainless 1894SS was made around 2008 and has a wood stock without the bullseye. The wood is slightly lighter in color than my other Marlin (an older Guide Gun) but I am assuming it is also walnut. I guess it must be one of the "cost savings" guns. I still love the gun and it shoots well. But I was always curious about the missing bullseye.
I wonder when Remington will decide to save money and lose the bullseye? ??? ::)

Don't give them any ideas. ;) It is already bad enough.
You can order them and install them yourself. My old 39A lost its bullseye and I ordered some. I have a few put away just in case. I might evern install one on my SBL.

They are going to start inlaying a big green R in the stock.

I hope you are kidding, but if not, they might as well stick a fork in Marlin because it's done.

Just wondering if the bullseye is just decorative or is there a purpose to it?

Unfortuneately it was the "bottom Line" that won the day. :-\

When my father brought home his ported 1895GG, we saw that "bullseye" on the underside of the stock and wondered if it was drilled there by mistake for the sling stud and that was just put there to patch the hole.... ???

Marlin website has the history on it.
It was decorative and It was to represent a Bulls Eye so to be seen when they were lined up on a sales rack and catch your eye or something along those lines.

I had one that the bullseye was missing. Someone had drilled out or perhaps it fell out on this one out and they placed the sling stud there as was often the case I hear. I reversed that. I installed the sling stud behind it iirc and I had an easy time figuring out where to install the bulls eye blank. Then I had to carefully file it to conform to the contour of the stock. Its fiddly... so tape off good with something. I think I used both painters tape and initially some duct tape too.
