I just got 250 a couple weeks ago and only shot 100gr Rem Factory ammo. Only bullets I had on hand were 75g Hp
and 86g SPs for 25/20s. I got in a buy out and now have every 257 bullet made. The guy must have been a 25/06
nut from the dies & brass I ended up with, not a 250 shooter. I got Horn, Speer , Sierra , Herters, Barnes and Nosler.
I got 3 boxes of Hornady 117gr RN. I like the looks of them, anyone tried these in a 250 ? I got 41/2 boxes of Sierra
90gr HP-BTs they don't look like good deer bullets. In fact a lot of these bullets over 100gr look to be match type
except for Nosler Partitions and the Herters Wasp Waist SPs. Need some load advice. The 224 & 308 bullets are the
same way, geared to long range match type shooting.

I have shot the Hornady 117 gr round nose in my 250 Savage using H-4831sc with 3 shot groups going under 1/2 inch. My 250 Savage is a 1 /10 twist barrel and getting chrono'd speed of 2660. Unless you have a 1/10 twist Savage 99 the round nose 117 gr will not stabilize in a 1/14 twist.

For those 250 Savage shooters who have hunted with the Hornady 117 gr RN I have exchanged emails the bullet is likely good out to 200 yards as once bullet velocity drops close to 2000 FPS you better be shooting bone and not lungs. I have been shooting/hunting with the 117 gr SST bullet in my 250 Sav with no issues on deer but the 40.0 grs of H-4831sc is a very compressed loI have to crimp the bullets so they don't get pushed up out of the case.

If yours is one of the earlier 1-14 twist rifles, get some Speer Hot Core 87 gr bullets. The 87 gr TNT shoots as well but is a varmint bullet. the 100 Hot Core is short enough to work in my rifle, but I've not found another 100 or bigger that works. That 87 Hot Core is the hot ticket in mine and many other old 250s. It's a proven deer and antelope killer.

The 100 gr Hornady in the 250 sav with 38 grs of Win 760 is a very good combo. i shot 39 grs WW-760 in my bolt action 700 rem classic but is pretty close to max in the 250. The 250 sav is a very good caliber and one you just can't get enough of, small in stature but big in performance. Its been around a long time and still performing with gusto.
