Hi there! When I bought my Marlin 338 MXLR last fall I was quite fond of the grey-black laminate butt stock and forearm. My taste has changed a bit and I'm looking for a replacement stock. Ideally a walnut, pistol grip, checkered stock like they put on the 336SS. A birch stock would work fine as well. Can anyone recommend a place to get a matching set for the 338/308X? Will a 336 butt stock and forearm fit? I'm in Canada so I'm looking for someone who can ship internationally (if they're from the US ect...).

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Msabean

Have a 336 birch stock. Taken off a 2008 336 that I put a walnut stock on for a friend. Not perfect though. If interested, PM me and will send pictures. It's factory checkered.

They will work, but requires some fitting for the barrel channel.

These are the pictures I have of her. I also have a video at

I'd like to get a stock similar to the 45-70 pictured but coloring (dark, light ect...) doesn't matter all that much to me (darker walnut would be ideal) as long as the butt and the forearm match. I also don't want a butt end with the big black limbsaver. I like the thin reddish butt pad, but a thin black marlin-stamped one would also work fine.
Thanks for your replies folks!

Birch pieces I have look like those including the checkering, are a set as they came off the same rifle, and are stained a dark walnut color. Will send you pics later today, gotta go to work.

BTW, I like shooting used plastic jugs filled with water too. Try this with your 338. Get milk in the wax & paper carton. When you're done wiht the milk, fill it full of water and freeze it. Take it with you when you go shooting. Because it will melt just a little bit, you can tear the carton off the block of ice and just shoot the ice. That makes for a cool effect when it gets hit.

Friend told me he's done it with a 5 gallon bucket and it's even more impressive.

308 and 338 MX/XLR stocks are interchangeable. As you are in Canada, I would suggest you contact the vendor listing the 308MX walnut stock set above as this vendor is in fact located in Canada; at least you would avoid any out of country shipping hassle with a US vendor.
Thanks very much for the post Rachethead (and everyone else who posted)! This is a match made in heaven. A Canadian seller with the exact butt/forend I was looking for. I dug a little deeper in this guy's auctions and found this: Marlin parts, 338 MX wood set, used, stock : Rifle Stocks at GunBroker.com. Used Take off wood set for the Marlin 338 MX pistol grip style/curved lever guns in walnut. There is no rub mark on the forend like there is with the pic in the 308MX listing. Thanks again!
