Up for sale is a Remington 742 In .308 Winny.
I purchased the rifle a couple years ago from a widow, who found it cased, in her closet. It had been there at least 20 years from time time her husband passed.
It has rust spots on one side of the receiver and a little on the barrel. They are not deep pits, but are unsightly.
The furniture needs a little work on the finish, but the checkering is in nice condition. There is a crack in the wrist. It has not shown any sign of weakness and has not expanded.
It wears iron sights and has a Weaver base mounted for a scope.
I have fired 40 cartridges of .308 and 7.62x51 out of it, without a hiccup. The action runs smoothly and strips the cartridges from the four round magazine without issue.
When I first got this rifle, I stripped it down and properly cleaned and oiled it.
The bore is sharp and bright, with a nice clean crown.
This would make a nice truck gun or what I used it for, which was to keep a rifle at my vacation home, so I did not have to transport one.
Asking price is $350 plus shipping. The first to post “I will take it, gets it.”
