I have the families.. Remington 552 speedmaster.
A family member came by awhile back, and said they wanted me to have it.
Forend keeper/retainer was loose.. missing the rear sight.
But still ? I was plum honoured.
SOOOO.. took me awhile to track down the correct rear sight.
Found one.
Then bought a forend retainer, fixed the forend.
She's one good shooting gun.
Works great with my grandpa's old Remington 572 pump.
Everyone needs a speedmaster 馃榾

Met my wife in 1974. During the next year or so I helped my future FIL build a new house and was rewarded with a Remington 552 for my efforts. Needless to say, I still think it's the finest 22 ever made. My 2 BILs and I put numerous bricks of ammo thru those guns and I don't ever remember a hiccup. Of course we got really good at cleaning them, that was all part of the fun. Oh, I married his daughter in 1976 and we still hunt together.

You got yourself a mighty fine 22. I got my pawpaws 552. This is the rifle I shot my first squirrel with, first rabbit with, first muscrat with, first water snake with, first bullfrog with, first raccoon with..... It still shoots as fine today as it did way back then. Lotsa good memories.

Back in 1987 when I was working at Carl's Auto Parts on main st.
in Teague, Texas (we also sold a few used guns) I took a used speedmaster
in partial pay for one week.
Wish I still had it.

I wouldn't take anything for mine. But my FIL had the 550-1, the forerunner of these fine rifles. I have his 550-1 plus one that I had picked up at a pawnshop. They all shoot great.

buckweet, I'm glad a family member got it that would cherish it for what it is.

Speed master was the first gun I ever won as a Skeet shooter. Still have that rifle. Killed a bunch of Jacks with that rifle over the years. Would not trade it.

I found mine at an Estate Sale a few years ago.
It doesn't look as though it was ever used much if at all. Considering it was purchased new in 1960, I am very pleased.
Vintage Weaver scope was purchased at the same time as the rifle, and is still clear and perfectly functional.
This rifle will put all of its shots into a dime sized hole at 50 yards all day long.

I presently have a Rem 276, that's half of a 552 that was in a trunk in a roll over wreck. A loose tire did a job on barrel, tube and forearm. Reciver, running gears and stock in good shape. Got to wait for another wreck, heading east to get a front end to make a 552.:burnout:
