That looks great. What did you use to strip the old finish? I also have a 2020 Remlin and will need a new stock (mine has a crack) and have thought about how I will go about staining a mismatched pair
This is what I used to strip the stock because it's what I had on hand, but it didn't work very well. The Marlin finish is extremely hard, I applied the stripper at least 6-7 times, and it was still a struggle.
The instructions say to wait at least 7 days before using the stock sheen and conditioner, not sure if I'll do that or not to reduce the gloss. I finished a scrap piece of walnut with the tru oil, so I can experiment with that.
Look for Strypeeze, I have used it several times, one maby two coats and Marlin finish is gone.I like linseed oil myself, but it's time consuming too get right.
Looks good, like a classic rifle lever should.
The True Oil will shrink into the wood and the shine will mellow out, it will also fade into the checkering and lose most of the shine, in time.
Looks great. Anything is an improvement over marshield, 100%, and if you put enough coats on, tru-oil works well and stands the test of time. Welcome to the forum.
