Just thought I'd ask.Have any of you talented guys modified a Redfield peep sight to fit a 336?? I see a lot of others for sale but not so many for 336's.If you have modified them which ones did you use.I have lots of patience but only basic hand tools and drill press for use.I think it may be doable but need some more information......Thanks

Maj,

Suggest we add the Mod 39A also (they're equally as hard to find steel sights for as the 336). I've often been tempted to buy a flat sided Lyman or Redfield for another rifle that looked close - but the distance between the screws and the bridge span are also factors. Heard the M94 Winchester sights will fit the marlin 336 if you remove the beveled projection on the top that fits over the receiver edge. Anybody tried that?

Also seems I saw a post somewhere that mentioned a maker of a side mount for a M 39A where you could attach a Mod 75 Redfield to it.

Hope there is some input here. Good question.

I put a Redfield 75 on my 1895ss. I had to fabricate a mount to make it work but it wasn't very difficult. The sight I had was one I took off of an old Rem 513T. It worked out pretty well as it lets me use the target aperature at the range and by unscrewing the aperature it makes a great ghost ring. Don't be afraid to try and make your own mount for whatever sight you find, I made mine out of a piece of 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 angle iron I had laying around.

Yep I just finished reworking a LYMAN 66a to fit one of my 336 rifles,a good bit of file work then reblued with some brownells cold blue...turned out great sooooo that's what got me to thinking.I know the hole spacing is another issue but the base could be redrilled or holes elongated it they are close. That is why I asked if anyone had done it.I've seen good redfields go for as little as $35 on one of the auction sites

I recently purchased a 336 that came with an old Redfield sight on it and also one that had a old Lyman sight on it. They are not for sale at this time but I know there are some out there maybe just hard to find. I see someone has a Lyman on Ebay and they say it came off a 39A. It looks to be in rough condition and missing the left to right or windage adjustment.

The old steel side mount sights are hard to come by and when you spot one, tbey go for 10X the original cost. I gave up the search, and bought a Lyman.

But I've often wondered why there is nobody with a machine shop that doesn't turn them out?? I would think you could turn a small investment in tool steel, into a blued steel sight for a modest sum using a programmable system. ??

There are several nice peep sights available, but few have anything like the adjustment range of the side mounted peeps.
