Got out to the range today and tested a couple of loads.

300gr XTP and the 265gr

Shots were only at 50yds.

First up was the 300 XTP. Bottom is 3 shots with 50grs H335. Top is 51grs.

This was the 265gr over 46grs H4198

This was the 265gr with 47grs H4198.

Very preliminary results. But quite impressed with the 300 XTP.

Thanks guys. I will give RL7 a try as suggested. I also have some 300gr Sierra to try. Love the 444!

Try the 265 gr. bullets with Reloaders 7.
Just going to try some RL-7 and wondering what a good starting charge would be for the 265gr? Thinking 45grs?

Boom, I have very good accuracy results with the Hornady 300g. XTPs going out at 1800 fps. using H4198 (ragged hole at 54yds. 5 shots) in my Marlin.

Hornady say’s the starting load is 34.9 gr. of Rx-7. I’m shooting 45.6, Remington cases and CCI primers.

Nice, any chance you can get a velocity reading? My T4 groups the best with 43 grains of H4198. It groups only about an 1/8 of an inch larger with the 46 grain load. Congrtas

The stats were from the Hornady 8th edition loading manual. I tried loadings below and above the 1800fps. and the grouping weren't as good. My rifle just seem to like 300g XTP at 1800fps. Give it a try and keep us posted. Were I hunt for deer/bear is 100yds. max or less..... most of the time, much less.

Well, range day turned into a bust. Was doing some accuracy testing of some 265gr loads and noticed the hits on target where moving farther and farther to the right and then completely off the paper. Checked the scope and was able to wiggle it. Bases loosened up

Got out to the range and some more results. Range was 100yds. Scope is a Burris 3-9x40 E1 (my eyes aren’t that good)

Doesn't look like you use much of a crimp. I usually put a noticeable crimp on mine. But those are some pretty darn good shots. Especially that first photo of the bullseye. Nice group.
