Another related blast from the past, was the Weaver pivot (flip over) set up, which are no longer made. Recently picked up a 1950's rifle with a set of these with very low rings. Sometimes found on older Savage 99 with low rings, apperently people back in the day felt it also eased access to rotary magazine (or any top loaded mag for that matter). Holds its zero when flipped around, kinda neat actually.

Used a Valmet 412 308/12 gauge as a deer drive gun for awhile. At first when scoped (1.5X5), was not always lining up on time for snap brush shots. Took the scope off, made the shots, with both the buck barrel and rifle barrel. For me anyways, snap shooting inside twenty yards or so, open sights indexing off the front blade or bead (shotgun) is more efficient than a scope.
