My 444SS has 000 for the first three digits of the serial number. Does that mean that it was made in the year 2000?

Thanks,

Dave :)

Your rifle was made in 2000.

S/N prefixes for lever action rifles:

-41……………..B
…………………C
…………………D
…………………E
…………………F
…………………G
…………………H
…………………J
…………………K
…………………L
…………………M
…………………N
…………………P
-58……………..R
-59……………..S
-60……………..T
(August)-1961...U
(August)-1962...V
…………………W
…………………Y, Z
…………………AA
…………………AB
…………………AC
…………………AD, 68
…………………69
…………………70
…………………71
…………………72
Starting in 1973, the year of manufacture can be determined by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 100:
Example: SN 2112345 would have been made in 1979 [100 - 21 = 79].
