A couple of years ago I bought a 1966-vintage (SN AB 46677) straight grip 336RC 30-30 from the estate of an old lady who kept it and a Stevens .410 pump gun under her bed (both loaded, I was told). The 336 has a 10-32 hole in the receiver, lower than the placement of the ring
shown in Murray's 336 book (page two-16). Is my gun a Texan?

By the way, it is apparently unfired, and with the exception of cleaning the dust bunnies and some spots of light surface rust off of it, it is a very decent 336. I bought it and the 410 for $150. Sometimes you DO get to eat the bear...

Welcome to the forum. I'm not up on the many variations of 336 but I'd say you got one heck of a deal.

You just never know about those little old ladies.
