Get some more distance from your shotgun or improve the pattern you are getting. Today I took some Shooters Choice which is a plastic fouling remover solvent and gave my new Super Mag a deep cleaning. After many push and pulls through the barrel and letting set for 20 minutes I ran dry patches til clean. Then taking a bristle brush I wrapped fine steel wool, oiled the steel wool and hand polished my barrel with push, pulls till I was satisfied I had helped the inside.

After running a Hoppes #9 cleaning through after polishing with steel wool, my new Remington now had for the 1st time a mirror finish. This process will result in a 10% - 20% increase in pellet count, well worth the effort and couple hours of scrubbing. I finished with a light coat of oil until I pattern. I will wait for a 70 degree no wind low humidity day to pattern.

I will be shooting the Jellyhead .665 with Nitro 4x5x7 shot in 3.5" shells. At $80 per 10 cartridges they are considered the cats azz. Shooting 2 7/16th ounce of Hevi-shot at 1200fps. My gun/ choke/ ammo is supposed to shoot up to 320 pellets inside a 10" circle at 40 yards. Testing will tell.

What else can be done to shoot tighter patterns? Anybody else have a tip?

Lengthen the Forcing Cone.
A good polishing, choke and either Nitro ammo or the Hevi 13 7's are instant pattern improvements. The next round of Nitro I buy will be straight 7's, the 4's and 5's just take up space, the 7's are doing all the work.
