Picked up my guide gun!

I got back in town and made it to my FFL and picked up my guide gun. I am very pleased with the deal I got. The metal on it is 100% and the thinned forearm is just awesome. The buttstock has a few minor scratches on it, thinking about stripping it down, sanding and staining to match the lighter colored forearm. I'm going to call Cabelas and see if I can return the leveraction scope and swap it for some reloading stuff. I'm pretty happy with the XS sights that are on it.

Congrats on the rifle, good looker. You can never go wrong with a guide gun............ ;D
Very nice, congratulations.
Let us know how she shoots.

guideguns are addictive. i bought one when they first came out around '99 and love it. it shoots cloverleafs at 50 yds with factory ammo. i've taken quite a few deer with it. theres something about that big nasty snout with the port holes that i dig. i like it so much that i bought its little brother the 336D 35 and its little brother the 336SDT 30/30. one of these days i'll add a 444P. congrats on a great gun purchase. now go out and blast away.
I've owned a few over the years, a ported 1895G and a 1895GS. I can't tell you how much of a difference the thinned forearm makes. I can wrap my grip around the whole forearm and barrel, which makes it feel so much better in my hand.
Well after calling Cabelas and talking to their customer service for forever I am going to try and sell the scope myself rather than trying to deal with their return policy on it. So I'll be posting it for sell in the classifieds here if anyone is interested, its brand new never opened.
I like that slim forearm 8) enjoy it, shoot it....Matt, come play in the PM challenged match...those XS sights work ;)

I've sent several things back to Cabela's, and never had a problem.
If you've got the shipping invoice/packing slip, send that puppy back and get your $$$.

I've had really good Customer Service from Cabela's.

I don't have either as the gun was bought via gunbroker and it came with the new unopened scope and XS leverrail. (which I got all for $500, what a steal!) Anyhow after handling it for a while today it just feels so right without a scope on it.

On and Rowdy I am in the process of procuring some handloading equipment/supplies and as soon as I'm setup to load I'll be entering the contest for sure!
Field striped and cleaned the guide gun tonight. Action cycles pretty smooth, it will get better over time. The trigger felt pretty good for a factory marlin, I was a bit worried about that and was thinking about a happy trigger kit.

Decieded I'm going to shoot it a bit saturday, I've got 8 rounds of the Hornady 325gr gummy tips that came with the gun, and back from my last guide gun I have 4 rounds of the factory loaded 300gr Partitions and 4 rounds of 405gr beartooths.

Looking forward to seeing how it shoots with three very different loads, should give some kind of idea of which direction to go with the handloads. Pics and range report to come.
Use the money for that scope for loading gear! Who needs a scope anyhow? ;D
Nice looking weapon. Glad you have it in you hot little hands!
