I am getting older and my eyes need a little heip. My 39-A is a (L) code pryor to serial number. It has one screw on the reciever. The filler screw has a larger head and small fine threads on the forward portion of the flat. It has one tang screw. My Question for the 39-A Gurus is: Is there a way to mount a peepsight without drilling & tapping the reciever or tang? I would like a high quality sight (steel) if possible, That will stay in place. I am new to this conversion and need qualified help.

Your gun should be drilled and tapped on the left side of the receiver near the back, should be two screw holes with filler screws in them. This is where you mount your peep sight.

Swany beat me to it, but I will add that Williams Gunsights make a couple of nice receiver sights for the 39A.

The FP-39 is micro adjustable with positive click adjustments.
The 5D-39A is adjustable by loosening the screws and sliding the aperture arm.

Either one will fit the left side screw holes on your 1954 39A. and will work with the factory front sight.
