I've a G prefix 336, 1950 model. I've been trying to locate a front band as mine has been scratched and nicked up by a clown with the wrong screwdriver at some point in it's life. All the vendors I talk to that advertise them say they are the "new style" but yet can't tell me the difference. My rifle is a fairly early 336 so I assume I do not want a "new style" What's the difference and wheres the break between "new" and "old" style? Thanks

The only difference is the size of the screw that passes thru the barrel/magazine opening. In order to use the new style the passage way must be enlarged. Simple, just use a small round file and cut the hole a bit larger. I use a small swiss file.
