Just look for the JM proof mark on the left side of the barrel. It is the only way to know for certain that it was made before the move to NY
Not as Bad as I Thought
So I called Marlin the other day and production started moving to NY only in Oct. 2010. So, I feel much more comfortable about buying a recent, hell maybe even a NIB 1894SS. But I will still pay double book value for an older one!
