I have a 30-30 question, It isnt a Marlin 336 but a post 64 Winnie that a buddy owns. He's looking for a gunsmith to do a relue and install Williams firesights. Anyone have any recommendations for a good place?
chukar hunter I see this is your 4th post Hope you get some good leads.
If he is looking local Find someone with experience and look at some of their work . You can get a car painted cheap
but if the prep ain't done right you going to have buyer remorse.
If it's a post-64 Model 94 we are talking about, he needs to be aware that he may be disappointed in trying to re-blue the receiver. The metal is sintered steel, and the original finish was applied as a plating. It doesn't hold up very well over time, and bluing just doesn't "take" very well. The best-looking jobs I have seen on these rifles went for an "anitque"-style look for the receiver.
