The last Marlin I purchased was a .22LR that I got just over 40 years ago when I was 9. In need of a big bore tractor gun, I fell in love with this .45-70, Marlin #70456. The fit and finish and overall craftsmanship are just wonderful. I'll update after I have a chance to shoot it.

I own a ranch in Roundup, MT that's buried deep on a secluded mountain without a neighbor for miles. We're completely off-grid and don't even have access to emergency services for six months out of the year (they won't come up the mountain after the snow falls). I've also got bears who are getting increasingly emboldened. I'm not worried about being attacked while I'm on my tractor, but my dogs (five German Shepherds) follow alongside me anytime I'm on the tractor. They've been successful in running the bears off in the past but I don't want to risk them getting hurt if a sow with cubs shows up.
