Hi everyone!
I'm from the East Midlands in the UK, living in the South West these days.
I only took up shooting a couple of years ago, despite being pretty close to getting my bus pass!
In the UK I'm a "probationer" at a local rifle club and shoot .22 match rifle and occasionally .22 light sporting rifle, though I'm not a big fan of 'scopes.
However, I travel to the Philippines regularly and over there I shoot with friends pretty much anything I can get my greasy mitts on, from a 38 Smith and Wesson revolver, 9mm anything and 1911's.
But my most recent acquisition is a V serial numbered (1961/2?) Marlin 39 - A Golden. It's in great condition mechanically, but sadly has a broken buttstock.
So I've joined the forum with the view of posting my experiences with the rifle and hopefully getting some advice about how to find a new buttstock, as they don't seem to be easily found.

I am thinking that the M39 butt stocks are the same as 336 and 1895 models. I have not tried to interchange, them. Wether I'm wrong or correct, someone will come along shortly with more knowledge and set it straight. eBay and Boyds stocks in America would have them. AC

Welcome from coastal South Carolina. GSG is correct, the 1894/1895/336 stocks should fit but depending on the recoil pad may look a little off on a little 22.

Welcome UK shooter from the East of England. Great thing about coming to shooting later in life is that it doesn't matter one bit. Your going to find a whole world of interest and fun. I am also close to the bus pass, or as I call it, 'approaching middle age'.

Stock wise you could try Brownells UK. Its a US company but has a UK base. I dont know how bad your broken stock is, but it may be fixable. Talk to a gunsmith.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
I'll try the suggestions you've made, I have spoken to a couple of people in the UK, a gunsmith, who very obviously wasn't interested as it's not a $25,000 Rigby, and a specialist stock maker who felt it was too far gone for repair (I sent it to him), and estimated $700 for a new one! I've almost recovered from the shock.
Having done some browsing since I posted first, I think Boyds might be worth a try. Thanks again everyone.
