Went to the Gunshow today Most interesting thing I saw was A new Marlin 308 ME in stainless, 16" barrel, laminate straight stock, and fiber optic sights.
Tha dealer said he just got them in. It had the JM proof stamp.
It was A beauty! wood and metal fit and finish was great. I could find no flaws.
If this came out of the new plant I am impresed.

Not $900. worth of impresed but impresed. ;D

$900, are you serious? BTW, did you run into 2shotal while there? I know he was planning on looking for a 338MX. See any of them?
Yep $900.. There may have been A .338 there but I did not see one or Al.
By the time I was half way through the show there was so many people crowded into the building You could hardly get to the tables to look. Spotted A few new marlins but didn't try to get to them as that was not what I was looking for. Hope 2shotal had better luck than I did. ;D
Gator Skinner,

In some of the other threads you'll see me mention the 308 SDT from Davidson's. Wholesale is $599 and they can't give them away. They have been sitting in inventory for a year.

That link has nothing about 308 SDT. It's about 336 SS.

Why sure it does in post #4 ;D
I had not seen or heard of one. Thought it might be new. Sure is A nice rifle.

Gator,
I don't think that one is new. That sounds like a special that was done for Davidsons early in 2010 or maybe even 2009 at North Haven.............I recall the build sheet, but not the date............Those 308MX's with the short barrels were slow movers on the market too. that rifle came out either just before, or at the same time as the 45-70's with the 16.5" barrels......I may have been involved with the BARF's at the time.
I think that was a 308MX SDT (Stainless Davidson Trapper)...The grey laminate, fire sights and the $900.00 price sounds like the Davidson guns.

Yeah I went today as well but did not see any 338MXs, in fact only saw a couple of 336s. At any rate, the prcies these people are asking are ridiculous. I was interested in a 357 Taurus Tracker, it had a sticker for $479 as new ...... I picked it up looked at the cyl and all 7 holes had powder burn rings plus the cyl I thought had too much play ..... so I asked the fellow to see a NIB and he said the one in my hand was NIB...... I showed him the cyl powder burn and his answer was that I should be happy that the factory had tested all cyls :p ..... well I'm proud of myself ..... I just put it back on the table said thank you and walked way ..... :)

To make a long story short, I'm happy I didn't spend any money at the show today as my wife took her car in this morning, and we were $786 poorer when she came out :-[ ...... then she got home and fell going into the garage and by the time I got back home in afternoon her ankle had swollen enough that I took her to an emergency unit. Sure enough she fractured her right ankle, .... all in all not one of our best days :'(

Yet, I think there is a great 338MX out there waiting for me, its just going to take a little extra time and effort.

Wowser Al, sorry to hear about the wife and car......

Not a great day at all. Hope she is feeling better this evening. Regards,

Scott
Thanks Scott . . . . as you can imagine she is not a happy girl . . . heck this is the first time she is ever really been down sick. The ER doc said she can't drive, she already hates the crutches so I can see this is going to be an 'interesting' recovery. I'm now trying to work out travel logistic to get her to see an ortho MD tomorrow or Tuesday, plus I have my final dental surgery on Wed., I can't drive to it or from it either and I've been on the new job only 4 working days. I think the good Lord may be trying to cure my Marlinitis by keeping my mind away from a 338MX for a while ;D
