Hi All, I just recently purchased a couple of Marlin rifles one JM 336MXLR w/ a Leverail Top rail, And a Marlin 1895GS 45-70.

I haven't shot either one yet and I pretty excited to do so. I did purchase a set of laminate furniture for the 45-70 and I am thinking about putting a top rail on it (I love the look of the SBL), a DRC lever would be nice too, but I am debating changing the gun at all. I know the SBL has more features than just the top rail and laminate furniture but it's a start.

So what do you guys think should I change the GS up or leave it as it comes?

I will be moving back to Alaska in July and I have a moose hunt planned in Sept. so I will prove the beast then but in the mean time I am pretty excited to throw some money down the range at 1500fps.

It is a good idea to bed the stock with Acraglas gel. Other changes are a matter of personal taste, and it is perhaps best if they are reversible. I like scopes, for example, but put a peep on my 1895GBL because it looks more like it belongs on the gun.
