I got my first Marlin last week, a 336RC from 1958.
Took it to the range and 18 rounds through it. Not a single problem. Nice grouping at 20 yards, although a little on the high side (most within an inch high, 3 shots 3 inches high) . Should I adjust the rear sight or just aim low.
BTW, was shooting Win. 170 grain.
Have read 170s go a little high

Welcome from South Florida!. I'd try to get her out and sighted in at a hundred yards before trying to make any changes. 20 yards is too close to tell what she's gonna do at 100. unless of course, you plan on shooting at 20.

Welcome from Arkansas. New here myself! Based on what you said, the rifle would almost certainly shoot high at 100 yds also. You didn't say if you were shooting open sights or a scope. At 20 yards, open sights should be close to zero, and zero again at around 100 yds - shooting high between those two yardages - but never 3" high. I agree, go out to 100 to see where you're at. I would say adjusting the rear sight or scope down is in order.

Welcome, Bobby, from Granite Shoals!

What part of Texas do you live in?

As for sighting in @25yds, I'd adjust the sights so you're about .25in high. That should put you pretty close to zero @100yds. (I'm assuming the 336RC is a .30-30.)
