Hello everybody!
My name is Tom and I'm from the northwest corner of Ct.
This is not just my first Marlin, but also my first rifle, and second gun. Seems to me the receiver was made in the North Haven plant, and the rest in New York. Proof - (REP)S, Serial - 91089XXX. Bought her at Cabellas for $549.00 on sale. I know you all are really interested in the quality of the newer rifles and hope this info helps.
I took her out the day before yesterday and ran just over one hundred rounds through her in fairly short order. VERY, VERY NICE!! Smooth with no cycling troubles at all, three different makes of ammo. That's what I really want you all to know. Granted I haven't much experience with guns and shooting, but, I CAN tell you when I see good craftsmanship. The steel, stock, joints, weight, balance, look, even the smell of the thing are all mint. Not a scratch on her.
It's a hell of a drag seeing Marlin leave my home state. It's a hell of a drag that folks, including one of my buddies father, are out of work. It's a hell of a drag that big companies run the way they are run, but I don't think you all should lose hope yet. Let's not get too down about the first few rifles coming out of a new plant. There will be bugs and the company will have to make it right by us, the consumer. Until they fail us there, IMHO we need to be patient and have a little faith. I might one day, just might, be very proud of the hybrid/mutt rifle that is sitting by my desk as I type this.
I have Skinner sights on the way. The second the show up, they will be installed and I will be on the way to the range. I will give you all the lowdown on my next adventure, if you like.
Good shooting,
Tom.
P.S. Her name is Gertrude and she is a snappy ole broad. I think we are going to get along just fine.
