I just got the AR Wednesday.
Ordered the scope .
It should be here Tuesday.
It is just over 40 deg outside..
The dam bug bit me, ::)
I had to put a hand full of rounds in the clip and try out the rifle..
Nice heavy barrel..
NO recoil .. ;D
This is going to be a nice rifle to shoot. ;D ;D
I ordered 1000 rounds of Federal 55gr having them shipped to work..
Next weekend I will set up something here at the home range and get the scope dialed in..
This AR is like shooting a 22...
NOW I KNOW why all you guys like the AR's.....

They are a lot of fun and quite useful, too. They are not The Answer to All, but they certainly have their place.

I prefer the 20-rd mags, too, especially when I'm shooting prone.

It's nice to see AR mags (and mags in general) back down to a more reasonable level. You may want to consider the Magpul P-Mags... I'm not a big Tupperware person but the P-Mags have it all over the metal mags and are similarly priced. Just food for thought.

Well ,,
Yesterday I had the A R out and filled a few mag's
Bore sighted the scope a set up a few targets. :)
Also had Karen's mini 14 that needed final sight adjustments needed..
First few shots out of the ar to fine tune scope to rifle
About the end of the first 20 round clip the scope cross hairs move ::)
I was shooting about 6"high.
Checked all the screws on the rings checked the rings to the rail.
Adjusted back with bore sight ,few rounds adjust back to center
10 rounds hitting 6"high ..
I went threw about 60 rounds playing around with the dam thing
Almost used the scope for a target
I guess that's what I get from a refurbished scope.. ::)
Just sent a email to the seller.
It needs to go back.
I need to find another scope
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I was not happy with the scope.
Love the rifle

Sorry you are having trouble with the scope... there are few things as maddening as chasing a scope zero...

Simmons 6-21x44 .44 Mag Scope SP Target Turrets Mil-Dot Reticle Matte
Just talked to customer service and sending it back.
They will apply the cost to another scope or refund.
Got it from Natchezs Shooters Supplies
They seem like good people..

Got my first rifle scope back in the 1950's, a Weaver fixed 4 power. I have tried many scopes in the last 50 years and some have been real junk and in my opinion Simmons scopes fall in that class. Most all my scoped rifles, 13 to be exact, now have Leupold scopes on them. I have found that most scopes under $200 are not worth having. The old saying " You get what you pay for. " It makes a good scope cost even more when you add the cost of the cheap scope you get rid of on to the total cost.

maxmo

PS: I still have that Weaver 4 power on a Remington mod 700 in 7mm Mag.

For a dedicated long range gun you might try a millet 4-16x56 target scope,I have one on my 22-250 with repeatable target turrets and glass is very clear.Make a drop sheet and memorize it and it is very quick to use(3 inch drop at 300 turn to the 1 equals 1inch per hundred yards). It is a big piece of glass but would look good on that 24 inch barrel, but requires 30mm rings.

OW, did you ever get the scope thing straightened out? I just put a Pentax red dot on mine, but I also got an NcStar 3X9 with a QD lever, the whole thing is one-piece, including the scope tube. I've had very good luck with those cheapo scopes, but will never touch another Simmons, I've had several bad experiences with their stuff.

Plinking at 200 yards with an AR-15 is really fun, but it sure burns up ammo. I ordered a case of ammo for mine a year ago, thinking it would last awhile. Now I'm halfway through my fourth case. The stuff just seems to evaporate.

Oh, and I'll second the vote for the P-Mags. Worth every penny, and far superior to the metal mags. I won't buy anything else. 8)

Yes PJ
Sent the scope back
Wife and I hit a few gun shows
Looked at scopes at the shows.
At the show I picked up a Bushnell Sportview quad power 5x20xx44 for
$50.00... ;D
I have bore sited the scope but have not shot it since.
I did look at a F M scope that ALMOST made it home..(Famous Maker?)
Till I looked at the price ..$450.00.
Asked one of the dealers at the shoe that I know and shoots prairie poodles at lot if he ever heard of that scope??

Nope was his reply..so the Bushnell is sitting on top ,waiting to go for a run..
looks like tomorrow will be the day,got all my welding done
and it should be a nice day tomorrow.

Awesome! Take lots of ammo. Your bride will like it more than she thinks. I've trained a fair number of kids and female shooters on the Mini-14 and AR-pattern guns, and every one of them has said it was a lot more fun than they expected.

Getting the wife involved often means the ammo budget gets increased! 8)

Well we made it to the range yesterday..Finally
We were on a mission to zero a few guns
Karen's mini 14.and 10-22
I had the AR and my 1903.
I did the AR after we got Karen on paper with the mini.
She can fine tune her own gun ;D
I sat at the bench and was having a blast! ;D
I have a old B&L 8X20 on top and was shredding the centers out at a 100 yards.
We had some gusty winds so the bullet wandering was expected..
Between Karen and I we shot up a few 100 rounds
I had to tune in my 1903 ,just put a OLD tasco 24 power on it..
The rang master kept walking down by us threw out the afternoon ,,
Found out later on when I was talking with him.
He had to see what we were shooting..
Had two guys next to me with AR checking out the DMPS ..
Now they are going to check on getting the long SS upper..
I LIKE THE AR,,What a pleasure to shoot..
I need to do a trigger job on the mini,,Karen said the trigger is heavy..
Like's the AR trigger..much lighter and smother than the mini 14.
