The good folks at Marlin must not cycle their test / proof loads through the magazines of the rifles before applying the final seal of approval. How did I come to this conclusion? Well, when I took my brand new 336Y to the local pit to see how she worked, I was disappointed when the cartridges would not cycle properly. It seemed that the lower portion of the extractor hook was digging into the rim of the cartridge as it was coming up in line with the chamber. A few strokes with a file and stone took care of it. Any of you have the same problem?

You have to wonder how it gets past QC. I have a friend who had the same thing happen with a SAKO bolt action .270 a few years ago. The casing looked abused after only one chambering frustrating after spending well over $1000 on the rifle.

He did the same thing you did and it fixed the problem.
