i was taken by the new 336y in the 2011 catalog. i wanted to replace a marlin 1895 that i sold years ago, and the short youth carbine fit exactly what i wanted. i want to use it primarily with a peep, but want to have the ability to also mount a red dot when i feel the need. i ordered the piece about two months ago, but have not been able to get a date of delivery from my local dealer who is waiting for word from his distributor who has not received any word from the manufacturer. i'm drooling. any word out there would be greatly appreciated.

The 2003's had walnut stocks, these have "hardwood" which I am guessing are going to be birch. I am surprised they did not do them with laminates. The 2003 I have is an amazing little shooter and is put away for my daughter. I would like to see pictures of the new ones if anyone hunts one down.

Wood can be replaced if need be. My Glenfield 30 has become one of my favorite levers and is my favorite .30-30. Judicious shopping for wood should put you in one about as economically as having a smith cut down a 336C. I got a late start on grandchildren, so we shall see what their likes are, then take it from there. Great-grandson (we got his dad at about 15) is definitely interested in what is in my safe, so I am already thinking about a four gun package to pass on to him when he becomes age appropriate. Good day, Jack

I know.......I bought one for my son when he was 7yrs old, he turned 10 last year and put blood on it already ;)

For those prices (compared to what people are getting for the 2003 models) the wood can be replaced with walnut
for a fair price if they shop around.
