I just purchased a Marlin 873 rifle. I need to know how to remove the bolt so I can clean the bore from the breach end. I tried holding the trigger back with safety off with no success. The serial number is in the 15 million range. I would like to know when the rifle was made. Bob.

If it's anything like my 917 you should be able to hold the trigger down and it will slide right out. Not pulling hard enough? Got the safety on?

I think what you have there is 783 made in 1985.
