Hi, Im a new member from the Houston area. I just ordered a XS7Camou stock, and looking forward to getting it next week. My first Marlin firearm was 880 SQ 22 LR rifle bought from Walmart in 1999. I shot thousands of rounds thru it and taken lot s of small game. Very satisfied in its accuracy. Suffice to say im a satisfied customer of Marlin .

Just weeks ago i sold my Remington 700 Y in 243 . Looking forward to something new . Reading all the reviews of XS7 since it debut were largely positive and i hope i get a good one.

Once I get it at my FFL , what are things to check for at first glance ? I read some entries about extractor problems? The recoil lugs are facing the wrong way ? Whether the barrel has a proof mark or something ? ETC Thanks

Personally, I would take a dollar bill and stick it in between the barrel and stock on one side. Then I would slide it back and forth ( towards muzzle one way and then the opposite direction towards the chamber) seeing how far it goes in each diection. Then I would do the same thing on the other side. If sock and barrel are straight with each other, the both sides should have the dollar bill stop at the same places on both sides.
My XL7's stock pressed against the barrel on the right side. Just my 2cents.

Proof mark means nothing, if it's got a JM it's original Marlin. If it has REM it's a Remington barrel. All of those other things only matter if it's not a shooter, the bent stock seems to be the biggest thorn though. Just make sure you clean all the funk & gunk off of it first, make sure the screws on the trigger housing are snug, be careful if you use the factory base screws. They are soft and snap fairly easily. It should be a good one.

Welcome and thanks for the post.

Please report back how your new rifle looks and shoots, especially if it is a new manufacture. Several of us are very interested in the quality of the latest Marlin products.

I have the same gun. Bought it from Gander Mntn two years ago and love it. Great gun to carry and they look good as well. 7mm08 is a very good choice in caliber. Would love one in Stainless now.

Okey i got the gun yesterday and all seems to look excellent. I went ahead and clean it entirely. I disassembled and tighten all the screws including the two with the trigger group. Putting it back was also a breeze. I made sure i didn t overtighten the screws just snug enough.

Anyway, what i can say is , this gun is well made. The stock trigger breaks crisply (i left it just as is), no creep. The camou stock with realtree APG pattern is super nice, doesnt have the cheap feeling to it. The bolt engages and locks up good. Safety is like the remington . THe bolt release is easy to push and have the bolt removed. The metal finish is nicely done , deep blue . The barrel is centered in the foreend channel of the stock . I can insert a dollar bill an inch maybe but the two front pillars stops it there. The front barrel lug had some movement when the barrel is seated in the stock . So what i did i cut a credit card and insert it to bed the barreled action nice and tight.

I went ahead and installed my old Bushnell Banner 4 x 12x 40 AO . I got steel Weaver high rings. Heres the pic.

Overall, Im very happy with this purchase. Now i will have to drop by at Walmart if they have the WInchester Super X 140 grners PSP.

BTW, i measured the LOP and is 13 .25 inches . Just perfect, not too short and not too long. The barrel has the REM with several asterisk after that. The serial no starts at 919 xxxxxxxxx. Definitely a Remington made rifle.
I would definitely recommend this rifle . I got the camou bec it looks better than a regular black stock. Glad i did.
