I was checking several guns over with my bore lite last night and when I got to that Waffle-Top from last week, I thought I was seeing things. Checked with a total of three different bore lite's, and it only has four lands and grooves. The grooves are twice as wide as the lands. Gun was made in 1948 and is a 32 Special. Barrel has all the normal stamping's from Marlin. Was this something they tried back then, special or normal? Any information is appreciated, thank's, Tommy

and deep groove at that. yep its normal. they switched to micro groove in 1956 I think. if your gun is like mine it shoots very, very well!,

I had to check my 49 30-30 after you posted this, never really noticed but yep, has that same set up. For some reason I thought they had 7. I dont have a bore light though, I bet thats a nice tool to have if your in the market and checking out guns.

I was going to say the switch to MicroGroove was late '54/55?, but the old school Ballard rifling was all day every day in '48, and yes they tend to shoot VERY well.

Yes I know about the switch from Ballard to Micro G. I thought the Ballard's were 6 or 7 lands and grooves, not 4.

The guns in 35 rem had 7 grooves until 56.
