I had my custom SDG MAG-NA-PORTED.I am a big fan of there's,I have had several 44mag revolvers done.It makes them alot easier to handle,so much so that my 18yr old 90pd daughter shoots them and enjoys it,with mid range loads.Porting does not make your gun loader, the same amount of gas still leaves the barrel, just in a differnt place.Muzzle brakes on the other hand are very loud because they are a expansion chamber and they cause alot of niose.Something to think about.

did you notice any accuracy difference after magnaporting?

A 45-70 doesn't kick that bad so why would you want to cut a bunch of holes in your barrel? Wouldn't that mess with the rifling in the couple of inches of the barrel? Looks to me like it could cause accuracy problems unless the barrel is ported prior to cutting the riffling. I don't know the process so I could be way wrong but I still don't want any holes cut in my barrel. I am 63 now so maybe when I get old and can't handle the little push from the 45-70, I may have to rethink it if it cuts down the recoil enough for a little girl. I just like the feel of that recoil. Makes me feel good when I shoot it.

Braked rifles of every description share the same downside - the blast and increased noise to the shooter and surrounding people is a major consideration, especially in a hunting rifle.

Shoot a braked rifle just once without your hearing protection on and you'll regret it. It's rather easy to forget in the excitement of the hunt. Guides hate em'!

I've got a few braked rifles and avoid using them when possible. However, a good brake will reduce recoil significantly if recoil reduction is necessary.

i fully understand the noise factor, i have a 300 win mag with a port/brake hybrid on it. im not looking for recoil reduction as much as im looking for faster follow-up shots. and while i do agree that recoil from the 45-70 is more than manageable, the muzzle flip slows things down just a little more than i would prefer.

OK :)

Porting and muzzle breaks are two different animals…Porting helps control muzzle jump on recoil…And breaks help control recoil…

The only ported rifle I shoot is a 444P – and I see no difference in noise…But a large diff in muzzle jump, when compared to a like unported 444 :)

I have not put one on a 45-70 but have one on a 338WM and a 300WM and it is well worth the money. My 338 has a KDF break on it and it is loud, but the 300 break is quiet as it 's gases exit forward. I do not have a good pictures but can add later if wanted.
The 338 is the one without the scope and is ported out the side. The 300 is the one with the larger break on the end and it's gases exit the front.
In the top picture the 338 is scoped, and it and the 300 are the top two rifles.

As a good electrician, i can fix those goobers on the end of you barrels, here let me get my hacksaw ;D ;D
Naw thats OK, I kinda like my goobers, recoil is a lot less with both and they both also unscrew so need of hacking. ;D ;D ;D

If you don't think they are loud, shoot next to someone at the range that has a ported rifle! A friend of mine has an 1895G with the factory porting and I have a newer one without the ports, and anyone on the firing line can tell the difference. I am with you Rowdy!

All the gases exit the front of my 300 and I have had no complaints at the rifle range, but I know what your saying because my 338 gases exit the sides and I have had people get up and move or leave. I will not use it next to any others at the range and will wait or take it off before shooting.

The break on the stainless barrel is on my Browning 338WM Stainless Stalker. The other two pictures are of my break on my model 70 Winchester 300WM and the gases exit in front. Some think it is quieter than a standard barrel without a break but I cannot tell.

1895Gunner,

I have shot a guide gun with the same break system that you have and I did like it, it was loud but I always wear hearing protection.

MAG-NA-PORTING uses electrical discharge machining (EDM) to remove the metal,it leaves no machining marks, no burs, no nothing. It has no effect on accuracy, velocity or noise level. My 1895 shoots clover leafs at 100yrds.There has been a couple gun magazines that have done db tests, proving that there is no effect on niose levels. MAG-NA-PORT does not use multi round holes, its trapezoidal port is not as noticeable as marlins multi round ports.I would love to show you a picture but have not yet set up to do so.

1895Stan is correct about EDM not leaving any burrs, it is a slick system; however, I will have to differ on the noise issue, Magnaports are loud too. I had a Magnaported .44mag and I got rid of it because of the noise. It didn't bother me a the range, but when hunting, it was very noticeable.

I am sure that if you contact mag-na port they would be happy to give you alist of sources that can verify that there is indeed no noise level change. Noise is like everything else subjective. I personally always wear hearing protection when shooting anything louder then my bow. And I have personally never been effected by a shot while hunting. Subjectively speaking I thing are 45-70s and 44mags are nothing when compared to say eneny of those super mags that all my buddys shoot.
