After knocking down a few whitetails with a borrowed bolt action, I recently picked up a new 336SS, my first rifle. I researched scopes and settled on the Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 BDC. Now I am trying to figure out the best mounting system for that combination. I have looked at the Leupold Quick Release because it would be great to be able to readily switch from scoped to iron sights for deer during the day and pigs at night. But It looks like their rail is so tall that it renders the rear sight useless.

Anyone want to offer suggestions for which mounts and rings to go with? Thanks.

The simple Weaver base is inexpensive and rugged, Weaver rings make it easy to remove/replace the scope with pretty fair return-to-zero if done carefully, and the base is low enough to allow use of the irons when the scope is off.
