I just purchased a Marlin 336C and a Weaver 63B base. The base is kind of weird in that it will hang over the front of the receiver if mounted in one direction, and over the rear of the receiver if mounted in the other. Has anyone mounted one of these bases on a 336C? If so, what is the correct orientation for the base?

I concur with gunjunkie. Install the base with the extension forward, toward the muzzle. This extension is needed so you can mount the scope far enough forward that it doesn't strike you in the face upon firing.

I ended up installing the Millet base for 336. It is much nicer than the Weaver 63B, and it comes with rings in a combo pack. I ordered on Sunday from Midway along with the BSA Boresighter kit (see http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/766064). For $29.95, this kit kicks butt.

One last thing: I installed a Weaver RV-7 2.5-7x28 that I had lying around the house. While it is only parallaxed at sixty-yards, this scope is the perfect size for the 336.
