Model 60 peeps?

1753 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  El Inglesito
I have a Model 60(duh) that I'd like to change the sights on.. just do not like the factory irons  I'd like to go the peep sight route. My 336 wears a Williams WGRS w/Firesight. However, I didn't see one listed for a M60 on their website. Any suggestions?

I run a Skinner barrel mounted peep on my 60 and like it very much. Not as nice as a receiver mount but a big improvement over the stock notch. You can read my review of this sight here: http://www.marlinowners.com/forums/index.php/topic,78733.0.html

On my 795 I run Tech Sights and they are excellent. It is a rear and front replacement. They now have the option of swapping apertures too and that is a big plus (wasn't available when I bought mine). They are somewhat expensive but I think well worth the money. A bit of a pain to adjust elevation (nothing difficult just tedious). Definitely get the adjustment tool on their options page, it really helps with this. They are very well made and stay put on the dovetail ramp. I need to do a review of them as well.

Another option is the Marbles Bullseye. It too is a barrel mount and pretty inexpensive. I prefer the Skinner.

I do think Williams sells sights that will fit. You have to look for dovetail ramp mount or some such. I could be wrong but I thought I'd seen them.

Any specific questions, let me know. :)

I gots to admit, I'm surprised at the lack of offerings for peeps for the M-60 given how popular it is ???

Williams has a dovetailed firesight, but it's not a peep. I've read that a WGRS-54 can be modified to work on an M-60.

I guess I'll take it to my bangsticksmith this week and see what he has to offer.

I believe they have an FP or maybe 5D for them. Might be wrong but thought I remembered seeing them.
I was just about to post the same question as the OP does anyone has any input on the following they are made for the 60?

I have a similar setup on my Mossy 835 and tried them on my 1895G. They are okay but not really worth it if you ask me. Too much of your focus goes to those rear dots and that is defeating the purpose.

Yes they are made for a M-60, but as Senor Chaps mentioned, it kinda defeats the purpose of changing sights. I just can't clearly see a target with a notched blade or buckhorn rear  Hence my reasoning for wanting to go the peep route.
Williams has a peep sight that slides on the scope groove; however, the receiver extends above the barrel quite a bit and you'll have to raise your front sight. I'm sorry I forgot exactly how much you have to raise the front sight, it is quite a bit - some where around 0.6". I posted all that I went through, either here on on Rimfire Central, but I can't find it now. Besides, Tech sights come in a kit with all the the right parts - a little more money, but a lot less fiddling around and calculating the needed front sight height. Had I know about Tech sights at the time I probably would have gone with them. If you were in the military you will feel like you've been there before wen you use them.
I have installed Tech Sights model TSM200 aperture sights on my Marlin Model 60 and am entirely satisfied with them. [The sights, that is... I'm still having some issues with the rifle itself...]

I installed the front sight post, which replaces the factory front sight with a fine post and two protective wings: 1 screw.
I then installed the rear aperture, which was easy, sliding onto the receiver scope rail. I shot at 50 yards and found my groups low and to the right, so I just walked them up the target with the windage and elevation knobs. I got it dead on at 50 yards in no time. Then I went to the 100 yard range and walked up the elevation about six clicks, and was shooting at 100 yards.

My Model 60 stovepipes frequently, so I'm trying to break it in and see if the parts will sort of wear together at a certain point, but accuracy with CCI mini-mags and Federal ammo has been good. You might like the Tech-Sights TSM200 peep sight.
