Can I use the minimum load data for the 45-70 as a starting point for the 450 Marlin and work my way up slowly. There is a lot of load data for the 45-70 with different bullet wts., but not the 450 M. I am interested in the Beartooth 425 gr. Piledriver Jr. It has a .374 dia meplat or 81% of bullet diameter. It should should retain a higher percentage of its muzzle velocity down range than a 350 gr. It should penetrate deeper than a 350 gr. also. I want to start out with a muzzle velocity of 1600 fps. Thanks, Hal

It is a dangerous supposition to think that one can use 45-70 data in the 450 Marlin. The 450 Marlin has less case capacity than the 45-70 so even the starting loads may be inappropriate. There are 450 Marlin load data for the 425 grain bullet being developed. Be patient.
