I can't say that I'm 100% certain but I don't believe they would carry seconds, now I have heard that on the wood stocked rifles they carry a lesser grade of wood stock. And I'm also sure that you can't buy Marlin X series at Walmart and if you found one you better buy it. Remington isn't letting big box stores sell the X series anymore.
From what I know, they are the same as you would get from Dick's Sporting goods or any where else.
What are the first two digits on the serial number and what is the name of the city stamped on it? That will give you alot of info as to a leftover North Haven or a moved-to-NewYork model.
I really doubt that. Are you buying seconds of Hornady, Remington and CCI ammo at Wal-mart? I don't think so.....

Isn't Dick's Sporting Goods considered a big box store? Dick's told me just last week that they could order one and have it within 5 days. ???

I heard the X7's were going to be made down south somewhere......Tenn or Kentuck?? and that it was the lever actions that would be made in the Rem plant. ???

You guys are getting this ol' fart mixed up!!
That is interesting Danno, our local Dicks put their last XL on clearance (which I happened to purchase). Our Academy's (another chain sporting good store) also told me they could no longer carry the Marlin X series. Walmart here cannot order them, as well as Bass Pro & Cabelas. Maybe it's a regional thing?? ???

Some of these big stores still have a few in inventory. Gander Mtn still appears to be carrying them, maybe your closest Dicks. Most are being sold in smaller gun shops though, there are some good deals on used X's at pawn shops if your lucky enough to find one. I can't figure out why some places are still being allowed to order the X guns and why some cannot. What caliber are you looking for?

They are available on Gunbroker.
At their heart they are the same guns, no matter what the model, X series, 336W, 60W, etc. They are not seconds but have differences such as birch vs. walnut stocks (on the lever actions), different sights and what have you but all the functioning bits are of equal quality to any other model.

My 336W is one of my favorite rifles and shoots extremely well.

I certainly hope for Remington's sake they haven't excluded the X series rifle from Walmart. FGI counts on more than 12% of their total sales across all of their product lines to come from Walmart. That is a huge volume to one retailer.

i am interested in the new 2011 x7 vh 22-250 for myself and the x7y 243 for my grandson. i would like to find somewhere i can get my order in.
Ooooouuuuuuhhhhhh, good luck with that one! I'm going to follow this thread now because I want to see how this one turns out! Keep us informed, I'm sure many are looking for the new varmit model. If it's a winner I might get one, but to be honest the heavy barrel would be no use to me.
if you dont mind ordering on line here is the best price's I found:

Check here as well. XS7 243 in SS for $380 w/free shipping. They carry all calibers it seems.

cant say if there is any difference in the marlins but I did notice that the Remington 700 SPS's at most stores either have a hinged floor plate or drop magazine. But at walmart alot of them just have blind mags. Not sure if its a walmart thing or what but its something i noticed.
I was told by a very good source that the parent company of Marlin no longer wants the X guns sold in big box stores. They want them sold in the smaller mom and pop types of dealers. I would assume this includes internet dealers as mom and pop type.
A big local gun shop I ask about XL7, they told me Remington gave them the choice, they could sell Remington or Marlin bolt guns but not both. Had to go to a hardware store for mine. IJ
