What do you guys make of the 20" part octagon barrel? Factory-shortened leftover? Is this a Corpoation gun?

It has a Marlin Fire-Arms Co. barrel. I would assume it is a left over from the previous company. Heck, the Marlin Firearms Corporation was even assembling trapper models.

When I first saw the picture I would have bet the serial no. had an A prefix but I would have been wrong.
