What kind of front sight hood should be on this '69 vintage rifle?
It came with a round (Winchester-looking) sight hood and I was told that it should have a more flat, (Marlin-looking) one.
Ordered oned from Marlin. they said it was the same as the 336, etc.
Had a hell of a time getting it on there and it looks too wide.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Without seeing the sight hood I would say it is probably correct for your vintage Marlin. It was not until 1973 that the "Wide Scan" front sight hood was introduced. Prior to that the hood was round in shape when viewed along the barrel, approx. 3/4 of an inch long with squared ends (the Winchester version had angled ends). If you decide to go with another type hood hang on to the one that came with the rifle. Can't buy the old style replacements anymore so they are becoming collectable for anyone owning an older 39A without the hood. Hope this helps

Thanks so much Tom!
I had the right one to begin with!!
I'll switch it back today!
At least I have a replacement sight hood for another Marlin now.
