As a relativel new 'Snowbird' from the United Kingdom, l have recently bought myself the above Rifle at an Estate Sale.

Today l took it to the range to see how it shot, and was delighted to find that is extremely accurate using just its iron sights.
The point of this enquiry however is that, shooting ' Remington .22 LRs ' through it, it was extremely ' smoky' from around the ejector port................is this normal, or should l change to another make of ammunition ?

My second enquiry is, have, or do, Marlin make a Lever Action also in .22 calibre?

Your comments and/ or advice would be much appreciated.

Welcome Dr. Barrie!

Smoke is normal and, if you cycle the action and trigger fast enough, you can make yourself a nice smokescreen to shoot from behind. ;)

And YES! Try as many different types of ammo as possible, if for no other reason than it is fun!

I never use Remington ammo. In the past it always seemed to be the nastiest ammo I could find and gummed up my actions fast. If I just *need* cheap plinking ammo I shoot federal bulk and for everything else and when it's time for business, I use CCI.

Well Dr. welcome to Marlin Owners. I keep hoping that I'll find one of those 989 M-2's at an estate sale. Congratulations!
Now to answer your second question. The answer is a resounding YES. Marlin does make a lever action .22.
I suppose you know this by now from reading this forum. There is sooooooooo much information here and so many experts ready and willing to share their advise that you will be glad you landed here.
