Well, this thread was started about the value of a 39D. Which is highly sought after by Marlin collectors because very few were made with different butt stock, barrel length, and barrel band with pin compared to the 39A. It was only made from 1971-1973.
You mentioned you seen one the other from the early 80's for $700, which is impossible.

The 39D is difficult to find and command a high premium compared to a run of the mill 39A from the 80's. It would be like showing up to an ad for a 1965 Ford Mustang and find out it's a 1986 Mustang hatchback. Both are Ford Mustangs but not remotely the same, looks or value wise.
I Have many old Marlins- the 39d ,I never thought was all that much of a difference…. Yet low production numbers fetch the Interest... In my opinion.

There is a 39D at one of the local pawn shops, been on the rack for SEVERAL months, the $ tag says $900, I figured it was about $300 to high?
I gave less that for either my Century Limited and Brace of 1000 39's (and I have the matching 30-30 Brace of 1000, figuring 50/50 of what I gave for the set).
