I just saw a Marlin 39A Octagon .22 lever gun on Gun Broker for sale. No, NOT a 39M Octagon, but a 39A Octagon. I never knew Marlin made such a rifle? I would love to own it but it has 3 days left on the auction an is already at $712.00. I imagine it will go for a little less than $2000.00 when all is said and done. Beyond my means none the less. Anyway...does anyone know the history of the 39A Octagon series?

I saw another one listed as a 39A and it comes in a pair with a 30-30 also with the octagon barrel. They are presentation centennial 100 year rifles. Buy now price of $1,800. is not all that bad for the pair if you were a collector with a little extra cash stashed. Not for me though.

The one you ask about is just what you said it was. Looking at the serial number it is a 1973.

Anyway...does anyone know the history of the 39A Octagon series?

Pretty short history. Only made in 1973. Seems like there was a handful of octagon models made in the early 1970's.
