There is a Marlin 336 ER .356 for sale on gunbroker with a # or 219504429 that says it is new in box and never been fired. Looking closely a picture of rifle it shows it has a cross bolt safety. I didn't know there were any Marlin 336 ER's ever built with a cross bolt safety. Would someone correct me or answer the question if they were built with a cross bolt safety?

This maybe on of those upgraded rifles not safe to fire if not an original.

The model 336ER was introduced in 1983; the same year Marlin introduced the CBS on all their lever guns. Therefore, all 336ERs were built with the CBS feature; and barring proof that a 336ER w/o a CBS is factory original, then a collector should ALWAYS be suspicious of any 336ER not having a CBS.

fk , The 1985 catalog I have sure does list a 356 for that year so dont let that keep you from jumping on it. The price tag may reach halfway to the moon before it over with but it seems to be legit . :)
