Can anyone tell me all of the configurations that the Marlin 1888 came in? Looking for info such as barrel lengths, calibers, round/octagon etc.

Thank you.

Can't say for sure, but my notes on the 1888 list 4,312 manufactured with a 24"" barrel (octagon), part round/part octagon there was 23 manufactured and finally with a 24'' round barrel there was 266. It's close, but doesn't quite add up the 4815 total that I have down as being manufactured. Calibers were 44-40, 38-40 and 32-20 and most were manufactured between 8/1888 to 10/1889*.
Top eject, blued receiver. 4815 made with 1298 in 32-20

* Note 4 Model 1888s were built from leftover parts after production ended. 1890- #22133 & #25820; 1892- #20528 & #24667

"I think I would really love to have one with the 24" round barrel."

I was very lucky to come across one a number of years ago in .38-40. It is in real nice condition with maybe 90% finish. It is still in my collection.

Sounds like a nice one. I have kind of had that one on my list for a while. Ever since I found out that is what Rube Burrows had in his coffin with him when he was photographed in death. Its been told that he was very fond of Marlin rifles and he liked his so much that when he broke free from jail instead of running he went after the man who captured him and stole his firearms (Marlin 88 included)
