I ordered a 26" octagon barrel for a bargain 94 I picked up this past week and I'm wondering if anything else will need changed on it aside from the barrel to go 38-55. This is my first 38-55 and I'm not too familiar with the winchesters.

Pretty sure you will need a 26 inch mag tube from a model 64 Winchester essentially a model 94 with a pistol grip.

Change over from bbl bands to fore end cap and dovetail attachement for the mag tubes fwd mount.

The Model 64 Winchester had a half magazine, and 24" barrel. More to the point, what 38-55 barrel did you get. If it's a Winchester left-over, it probably has all the dovetails you need. Aside from the magazine issue, I believe there will be a problem with the cartridge guides, the 30-30 being a bottle-necked cartridge, while the 38-55 is essentially a straight case.

I'd bring your question to the folks at http://www.levergunscommunity.com. There are several Winchester 94 experts there who will probably be able to walk you through the conversion.

Hope this helps.

Good morning
Another consideration would be to send the barreled action to JES and have that barrel rebored to caliber 38. But seeing as you already have the new tube I recon it would also be nice to have a switch barrel option.

http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Detail.aspx?pid=882400&catid=7500 this is the barrel. I know I could have sent it to JES but I wanted octagon. They even have a little 16" 38-55 which was mighty tempting but it was out of stock plus I think this one will look better with the crescent stock, saddle ring and whatnot. looks like they have the magtube in stock as well. it don't list the mag tube spring though. Any idea if mine will work. Or my mag cap?
