I am inheriting a second marlin in 45/70 This one is a Marlin Classic 1895

It has a 22inch barrel. Is it possible to get a magazine tube that will go near the end of the barrel that will allow it to hold more rounds?

I believe the hardest thing about it is getting the extended magazine tube. Will Remington even sell them? Or will it be like trying to convert an 1894 to a pistol grip, where you have to go buy a rifle and take off the parts. :)

Cutting the dovetail is a quick easy job for even a poor gunsmith. Its easier than drilling and tapping an action. You can even do it at hom with a file. Fillers for the open dovetail can be purchased for very littl money.

fairly easy to do for a smith, my 1895 is now a 7 shot. i didnt have to replace the magazine spring, the original will suffice. I would post a picture but there are pictures on old threads. thats where i got the idea from.

cheers

Hi all, I was wondering if there is a stainless version of the 1895 cowboy mag tube. I am wanting to do a magazine extension on my stainless guide gun but I cant seem to find a stainless tube anywhere....? Any help on this matter would be much appreciated!

Marlin made an 1895sbl and 1895stbl that were stainless and had a full length mag. Maybe you could order one of these from marlin? or one of the online companies(brownells, midway). I'm not sure but the mag tubes may just be nickle plated. You could buy a cowboy tube and have it plated if marlin wont sell you one and you cant find one elsewhere.

I called Marlin & they sold me a 1895SBL magazine tube & spring. The magazine was $33, the spring was $6 & I paid an extra $14 for expedited shipping. Marlin had the tube & spring on my door step in 3 buissines days. Now off to the gunsmith to get a new dovetail cut on my guide gun & get this stuff installed!! If anyone wants to do a mag extension on a stainless guide gun I dont think it gets any easier than this.

After I found out brownells had the CB magazine I ordered on and it arrived yesterday. Figured I would find time between now and cool weather to cut it down, neve know brownells might sell out and remington quit selling to them.
