In Memoriam Forestry Officer Jason Crisp And K-9 Maros

Tom Tidwell, Chief of the US Department of Agriculture, Forest Service-Law Enforcement Division has reported that Officer Jason Crisp, 38, was shot and killed along with his K-9.
The incident started when Rhonda Whisnant failed to show up for work. She and her husband Levi had not been seen since Friday. A welfare check of the home on Fish Hatchery Road in Burke County, North Carolina resulted in Sheriff Deputies finding both Rhonda and Levi Whisnant deceased in the home. They had been murdered.
Officers soon determined that the couple’s son, Troy Whisnant, 38, was a suspect. He had just released from prison on a manslaughter charge. When officers located him, he fled into a wooded area. As he was fleeing officers, Whisnant came upon Forestry Service Officer Crisp with his K-9 partner. Whisnant shot and killed Officer Crisp and Crisp’s K-9 partner, Maros.
Whisnant fled the scene of Officer Crisp’s shooting and ran deeper into the woods. An Avery County Sheriff Deputy and two North Carolina Troopers tracked the suspect through the woods and about two hours later, the officers were engaged in another gun battle. This time, the suspect was shot and killed.
The FBI is investigating the murder of Officer Crisp and the Burke County Sheriff and North Carolina Criminal Bureau of Investigation conduct inquiries into the murder of the suspect and his parents.
Forestry Service Officer Jason Crisp served the Forest Service for 10 years. He previously served as a McDowell County Sheriff deputy.
Forestry Service Officer Jason Crisp is survived by his wife and two children.

I am very familiar with that area of North Carolina. I was an SBI agent and I worked that area. Some things, and places, never change. God Bless that man and his K-9 partner. God Bless his family too.

My prayers go out for a young man that lost his life while trying to protect the lives of his fellow countrymen. Another prayer goes out for his wife and children that lost someone that can never be replaced in there hearts and memory's.
