Hi I'm new here.

I just got a 45/70 1895 and I was looking for load data.
What I have:
350 grn hard cast bullets that are bhn 25 used with imr 4198 in Remington brass with federal large rifle primers. I'm not necessarily looking for a kill-my-shoulder load.

Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.
I can't answer for that bullet, but I'm sure you'll get a bunch of replies soon enough.
I've only been loading 405grs. Usually with RL7. But I've got about 100 test rnds made up using IMR 4198, H322, Trail Boss, and 2400. Just waitingingfor some better days to hit the range.

I am going to work up a load with these Beartooth Pile Driver Lites (350gr) and Alliant 2400. I am going to start at 24 grains and move up until I get around 1650fps or so. I have a short 18.5" barrel, and I don't want a shoulder bruiser either; it's just not needed, IMO. I don't hunt in grizzly country ( although it's been rumored that Utah DWR has "imported" a few to help out Yellowstone Park) but I doubt even "Ol ephraim" could shrug off a 350 hard cast at about any velovity. I also like the way 2400 burns up fast and makes a very small, if any, muzzle flash. I use 26 gr of 2400 with the Remington 405 for 1600+ and it's a sweetheart to shoot. Good luck!

Thanks for the response. I've been out of the reloading game for about 12 or so years, it's almost like starting all over again. I'll be looking at different powders in the near future but, it just seems hard to find anything up here in the great white north. I've been trying to locate some 5744 to use for reduced loads, but no such luck. I've scoured the net and all the manuals I have including Lymans #49, as well as contacting the bullet maker to no avail. They list weights all over the map, from 330gr to 385gr and higher as well as lower, but no 350's.

Again, thanks

Use the 385 grain data. ;) I'd try 2400 myself but I like it alot for cast loads.

I had good results with 350 Laser Cast with 27 gr of 5744. Didn't lead the barrel and easy on the shoulder. Recoil about like trapdoor Rem 405 factory ammo.
4 shots at 50yds with peep sight.

I use very hard hand cast (26 Brinell) Ranch Dog 350gr gas checked, with 50gr of H4198 (exact same as ADI AR2207) at about 2075fps.
